The annual Echo Student Literary Competition is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled at Bethany College, Heidelberg University, Hiram College, Marietta College, University of Mount Union, and Muskingum University.
Prizes will be awarded in three categories: (1) poetry (2) short fiction and (3) creative nonfiction. A participant may enter in all categories if he or she wishes, but no work may be submitted in more than one category. Poetry entries (up to 3 poems) will be judged as a single entry and can win only one prize. Entrants may win prizes in more than one genre. Prizes in each category will be $150, $100, and $50. Honorable mentions will be awarded at the contest’s discretion and carry no cash prize.
A panel of faculty from the partner schools will judge entries. Judges will not know the identity of entrants, and judges will not read or evaluate the entries of students from the colleges or universities where they teach.
Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded in the spring. All finalists will be published in the 2017 Echo Literary Anthology.
Entries must be submitted electronically. Click here to submit your entry.
DO NOT put your name or other identifying information on the manuscripts. Fiction and creative nonfiction entries must be double-spaced and must include a word count. Please use Times New Roman with 11-point font.
